In den 90er Jahren glaubten viele die Zukunft des Web läge in Virtual Reality. Es war die Zeit von VRML (jetzt X3D), was die Erwartungen in VR aber nie erfüllt hat. Web 2.0 gab VR dann den Todesstoß [1] [2].
Erst Projekte wie Second Life haben der Vision von virtuellen 3D sozialen Interaktionsräumen neuen Aufschwung gegeben.
Cubic Space arbeitet an einem anderen experimentellen Ansazt Web 3.0 (das geospatiale Web) und VR (durch Benutzung von X3D) zu kombinieren.
